During the Zhenyuan era, the Bai Ze Order goes missing after the accidental death of the Bai Ze goddess, who ruled over the realms of humans and demons, resulting in wild demon creatures producing chaos and innumerable violent murders in the human world. At this point, the head of all demons, “Zhu Yan,” disguised as Zhao Yuan Zhou, offers to “surrender” and suggests that the imperial court establish a demon-hunting department to control the mayhem.

Wen Xiao, wary and suspicious of Zhao Yuan Zhou, joins the demon-hunting bureau along with her childhood friend and consul, Zhuo Yi Chen, who is skilled in both detective work and swordsmanship; the cool and detached archer Pei Si Jing, formerly of the martial camp; and the young, talented, but timid doctor Bai Jiu. They establish a demon-hunting team and battle the demon monsters described in “The Classic of Mountains and Seas.”

As they solve crimes, they progressively learn the awful reality about the demon animals’ malevolent actions. Faced with a heavy burden and the loss of loved ones to dust, can the demon-hunting team’s unbreakable friendship and the love between the top demon beast and the goddess overcome this quandary?
